The CannulaideŽNasal CPAP seal and attachment made easy. Infant Nasal CPAP is on the rise. As many as 10% of all babies born in the US can benefit from some degree of breathing support. For some infants treatment is needed only for a few hours while for others it may be needed for several months. CPAP has been widely used with these infants to reduce their work of breathing. Nasal CPAP is growing in popularity because it avoids intubation or tracheotomization, decreases the risk of nosocomial pneumonia; decreases sedation requirements; and improves the ability to tolerate enteral feeds. The Cannulaide, as an adjunct to this therapy, can improve the quality of the CPAP seal and may help reduce irritation to your patients. Just as each brand of prongs is designed to fit the range of preemie babies, the Cannulaide, offered in five sizes, will work with the type you use, and with both across-the-face and over-the-head styles of CPAP set up.
Proper fit is key to minimizing irritation and trauma to the nares and nasal septum.
Cannulaide increases the effectiveness of the seal. Tests show that the Cannulaide significantly reduces leakage around the prongs when compared to using no seal and when compared to using hand-made seals. Tests also show that the variability in seal leakage is significantly reduced when compared to using no seal and when compared to using hand-made seals.
